Community Violence Solutions

The Umbrella Organization for Rape Crisis Center

Founded in 1974, Community Violence Solutions (CVS) works in partnership with the community to end sexual assault and family violence through prevention, crisis services, and treatment.

Community Violence Solutions, formerly called Rape Crisis Center, is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that has been providing a variety of services to child and adult victims of sexual assault and their families for over 28 years. CVS serves as an umbrella organization for the following services:

  • Rape Crisis Center – providing crisis intervention services consisting of a regional 24-hour crisis line, crisis counseling, victim advocacy services and Sexual Assault Response Team (SART).
  • Stepping Stones Counseling Center – offering therapeutic counseling for children and adults including individual, group and family therapy.
  • Specialized Children’s Services – including The Children’s Interview Center, a forensic interview center for child victims of sexual abuse.
  • Prevention Services – offering on-site presentations to youth at middle and high schools on topics such as healthy relationships, sexual harassment and date rape as well as self-defense classes for women and girls, and a special program for involving young males in the fight to end sexual violence.
  • Safe 4 Us Supervised Visitation and Exchange Center – facilitating safe supervised visits and exchanges between West Contra Costa County residents (children and parents) who have experienced domestic violence, stalking or sexual abuse.

Annually, the organization receives thousands of calls to its 24-hour crisis line. Last year, we provided crisis intervention and follow-up services to over 1400 victims of sexual assault and community education/prevention services to more than 15,000 individuals. Over 60% of CVS’s crisis intervention cases are children or youth.
